Obituary for Margot Elizabeth McGuire

Margot Elizabeth McGuire passed away on April 10, 2018. Born May 8, 1930, to Dr. William C. Eichner and Margaret “Peg” Eichner, and raised in Studio City, CA. In 1949, Margot ran off to Las Vegas to elope with the love of her life, Mervyn, followed by a reception at the home of her parents. Margot and Mervyn began their lives together in Van Nuys and relocated to Crescent City in 1952 where they raised their family; Jerry, Christopher, Cherie, and Billy.

In 1961 they established the family business, Sea-a-Rama, in which they created numerous novelty and souvenir items, including specialty engraved worry stones. Not only was Margot a key figure in Sea-A-Rama running the back office, she also worked full time as the Crescent City legal sector as a Secretary in the law office of Speer and Creasy, as well as the law office of Garry Brennan. She worked for many years for Dick Davis Surveying. She finished a long and distinguished career in the Del Norte County Court House working with Judge Frank S. Peterson and Judge Robert W. Weir as their Legal Assistant, Jury Commissioner and Law Librarian. Margot enjoyed retirement for many years and was active in Women’s Club and an avid Bridge Player along with her many friends.

Margot was an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, Youth Group Leader, Member of the Mission Committee, and Treasurer for many years.

Margot was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 61 years, Mervyn McGuire, her son, Christopher McGuire, Grandson, Todd McGuire and Son-in-law, Stephen Luis.
She is survived by sons, Dr. Jerry McGuire and wife, Julie of Gresham, OR., Bill McGuire and wife, Ernestine of El Dorado Hills, CA.; daughter Cherie Luis of Crescent City; grandchildren, Christopher McGuire and wife, Rekni of Eugene, OR., Samantha Beckett and husband, Bradd of Warrenton, OR., Aimaleigh Brock and husband, Russell of Selma OR., Steven McGuire and wife, Harmony of Louisville, KY., Joseph Luis and fiancé, Haley Gist of Placerville CA, Megan Simmons and husband, Micah of Rancho Cordova, CA., and Morgan McGuire of Brooklyn, NY. Also, surviving are her sister-in-law, Christy McGuire, and numerous great-grandchildren. Generations of her extended family will continue to benefit from the foundation of loving support built by Margot and Mervyn.

A Celebration of Margot’s life will follow the Interment at the Cemetery, back at St. Paul’s Trinity Center at approximately Noon.

Donations in-lieu of flowers may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in the name of Christopher McGuire to end childhood cancer at stjude.org/donate.
