Obituary for John Oscar Bohannon

John Oscar Bohannon passed away on July 24, 2018 at Sutter Coast Hospital from complications of a stroke with his sons Robert and Troy by his side. On June 14, 1944 John was born and raised in Salmon, Idaho.

At the age of 17, he volunteered his draft in the Unites States Army and spent two years serving his country state side. John moved to Klamath, CA in October 1963 and began working for Simpson Timber Company. After they shut down, he worked for other timber companies until he was hired by Miller Redwood Company where he worked for 21 years until 1992 when he had to retire due to a serious heart condition.

At the time of his retirement, John lived in the Redwood Coast Subdivision mobile home park where he spent over 20 years taking care of the lawns of most of the homeowners. John enjoyed staying busy and took great pride in his work. After John’s 3rd open heart surgery in 2012, he had to quit mowing lawns but the took up woodworking, creating redwood birdhouses, redwood mailbox covers, paper box holders and other creations.

John loved rodeos and served with great pride in his position as head of our local rodeo committee for several years. Those were years that he truly enjoyed as I know did the men and women who worked with him during those years.

During his younger years, he was a member of the Crescent City Elk’s Lodge and the Del Norte Jaycees. One of his greatest passions was his church ministry, helping out wherever he was needed. John loved the Lord and serving in any way that he could.

He met his wife of almost 54 years on a blind date on February 15, 1964.

John is survived by his wife Marcy, sons Robert and wife Haley, Troy and wife Rebecca. He leaves behind four grandchildren, Natalie Haney and husband Max, Kayla Bohannon, Dustin Bohannon and wife Micah and Lanye Bohannon. Three great grandchildren, Barrett Haney, Riley Haney and Brooklyn Bohannon. Two grandchildren from our church family, Ryan and Amara Magnuson.

A memorial service was held at the First Baptist Church on Saturday, July 28th. Memorials can be made to First Baptist Church.
