Obituary for Nancy Joan McMillin

Nancy J. McMillin, died September 6, 2019, after a prolonged illness with diabetes and end stage renal disease. Born in Santa Monica, California, she grew up and lived most of her life in Southern California, with her family, who relocated to Vista, CA when she was in high school.

After marriage to John McMillin in 1976, she moved to Fallbrook, California, assisting with the family business “J&D Citavo” and raising two small children. In the early 1980’s, she moved with her husband and children to Washington State, where she resided for five brief years before making her permanent and final residence in Crescent City, California.

During her lifetime she was an avid musician frequently joining barbershop quartet groups as their alto singer in both Brookings, Oregon and Crescent City, California. Elvis Presley, and 60’s songs, and classic Christian music were always played in her home. In fact, listening and dancing to the 60’s classics was the main way she got her daughters to clean their home while growing up!

Nancy loved working with her community and frequently attended the Christian Women’s clubs and Red Hatter’s groups. She was enthusiastic about church and sharing the message of a second coming for all who believe in Jesus Christ, the gift offered by His father. She was a loving and devoted wife, who supported her husband through multiple business ventures, raising two daughters where 13-months apart.

Although she graduated high school with honors, she never found the time to return to school to finish her college degree. She spent her time teaching arts and crafts, sewing and baking, to any group who needed the education. Nancy was an amazing cake baker and decorator who was frequently asked to build and supply a variety of cakes including tiered wedding cakes, graduation cakes, and birthday cakes.

Nancy loved to travel. Hawaii was an amazing honeymoon for John and Nancy, where she hiked Diamond Head and surfed. During her lifetime she was able to travel to the Mexico, Isle of Man, Ireland, France, England, Spain, North Africa, Switzerland, Germany, and Scotland to name a few. She had a love of adventure and a heart of love for anyone who needed a prayer or a song. Anyone who knew her could tell you of her amazing Christian spirit and of her devotion to God. She fully believed in the second coming of Jesus Christ, she will see her family and friends in heaven, and be in perfect health.

Surviving are her husband John McMillin and their daughters, Carissa McMillin, Janette Cooke and husband Ben Cooke; and four grandchildren: Patrick McMillin, Connor Cooke, Seanna Cooke, and Arwen Cooke. She is also survived by her older brother, Bill McDougall.

Memorials may be made to John McMillin, 200 Nelson Lane, Crescent City, California 95531, as any financial assistance is appreciated.

Flowers can be donated for the service directly to the Crescent City Seventh-day Adventist church. Additionally, a memorial donation can be made to the 3ABN Broadcasting Network that reaches millions of people worldwide who might not be able to listen and learn about the Gospel.
