Anitra Van Matre, born on May 19, 1932, in
Tumalo, Oregon, peacefully departed this life on September 29, 2025, in
Crescent City, California, at the age of 93. Anitra dedicated her professional
life to caring for others as a surgical nurse at Seaside Hospital and Sutter
Coast Hospital, later serving as an office nurse for Dr. George Kasper. Her
passion for service extended beyond her career, as she was an active member of
her community, participating in organizations such as Community Concert, DNACA,
CAL, and the Crescent City Women's Club.
A
woman of diverse interests, Anitra found joy in travel, gardening,
entertaining, and music, particularly playing the piano. Her talents and
passions enriched the lives of those around her, leaving a legacy of warmth and
creativity.
Anitra
was preceded in death by her high school sweetheart and husband, Donald Van
Matre; her second husband, Ed Clark; her parents, Arnold and Irene Sandwick;
and her brothers, Thomas, Andrew, and Eric Sandwick. She is lovingly remembered
by her daughters, Janet Figoni (Jim) and Donna Parker (Rick); granddaughters,
Katie Figoni and Kendra Lawrence; her sister, Carmen Olsen; her bonus daughter,
Linda Clark, and bonus grandsons Chris and Kevin Whitsitt. She also leaves
behind numerous nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart.
In accordance with Anitra's wishes, no
services will be held. Her family extends heartfelt gratitude to Sutter Coast
Home Care and Hospice, Addie Meedom House, and Wiers Mortuary for their
compassionate care and support. Anitra Van Matre will be remembered as a
devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, whose kindness and dedication
touched many lives. Her memory will continue to inspire and comfort those who
knew and loved her.
