Obituary

Edith Mary Brigden passed away June 26, 2012 in Crescent City at Addie Meedom Assisted Living House at 89 years old.
Edie was born May 18, 1923 in Roslyn, WA to Harry & Catherine Coburn. She grew up on a farm and enjoyed helping her Dad with chores including milking the family cow. All that knew her, can you imagine that?

After high school, Edie moved to Yakima, WA where she attended Cosmetology School graduating in 1945 and was employed by Safeway as a checker. She met Keith Brigden in Yakima and married before he was deployed to serve in World War II. After the war, Edie moved to Keiths home town area, Eureka, CA. She was employed by Safeway and also was a beautician in a solan in Henderson Center.

In May 1954, Edie gave birth to her only child Kitty. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting clothes for her daughter as she was growing up.

Edie later started a beauty salon in her home, The Beauty Boutique. She saved to start the first clothing boutique of its kind, The Broken Egg Shell, located in the Henderson Center in 1969. She crocheted and made leather items to sell in her shop. Edie expanded her boutique in the 70's moving to F Street in downtown Eureka and then later to 4th Street. She and her daughter operated the Broken Egg Shell Boutique for 17 years until Edie retired in 1986.

Edie played the organ beautifully and her friends loved to hear her play. She enjoyed dancing, working in her yard planting flowers, crocheting, sewing and walking her dogs.

Edie is survived by her daughter Kitty and son-in-law William Jones, granddaughter Macy Jones, niece Cheryl & husband Joe Starcevich, their daughters Shalyn and Cari, niece Cathy and her husband Andy Bator, Ted Bronkema and nephew Craig Scott.
Edie was preceded in death by her husband of many years, Herbert Keith Brigden, sister Marion Bronkema and parents Catherine & Harry Coburn.

A celebration of her life will be held at a later date for close friends and relatives.
