David George
Langlois, 78 years of age, passed away Tuesday March 3, 2026 at his home
surrounded by loved ones.
David is survived by
his best friend and loving wife, Linda. He leaves behind his four children and
spouses, Jim (Rosaland-d) Steve (Shelly), Billy (Keeohmee) and Trisha (Bryan.)
He is survived by his eight grandchildren Kaia, Ryan, Barrett, Gracie, Morgan,
Logan, Marli and Jaden, along with his nephew and niece, Rob (Glenna) Hampson
and Cathy Hampson, as well as numerous nephews, nieces.
David was born on
January 27, 1948, in Park Falls, Wisconsin. In 1953, his parents Henry Edward
and Ruth Elizabeth Langlois and his sister Ruthann, moved to Crescent City.
David remained close to and in Crescent City the remainder of his life.
He attended St.
Joseph Catholic elementary school. He went to Galt to attend St. Pius 10th Seminary during the first two years of high School. He returned to Crescent
City and graduated from Del Norte High School, graduating in 1966.
Dave joined the US
Navy. His expert training included assault boat coxswain school, survival-evasion-resistance
and escape instruction along with high altitude, low opening, and scuba diving.
He was a member of the underwater demolition team 12 and Seal team one. He
served several deployments during the Vietnam war and was honorably discharged
in 1971.
He married his
childhood friend and love of his life Linda Nuszkiewicz in 1970. He and Linda
began their 55 year marriage in Eureka, California attending school and working
in the lumber industry while Linda Started her nursing career at St. Joseph’s
hospital.
They returned to
Crescent City in 1973 where they raised their four children. Dave held
positions at Matthews Machinery and worked 17 years at Endert’s Distributing.
In 1989, Dave made a career change and joined the California Department of
Corrections as a correctional officer. Dave retired in 2009 after 20 years of
service at Pelican Bay State Prison.
Dave was a dedicated
parishioner and active member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was a
member of the knights of Columbus, volunteered as parish grounds keeper and
avid supporter at St. Vincent De Paul where he eventually took over as
president when his father-in-law retired from the position.
Dave had many interests.
He built their family home while raising their family. All while enjoying the
great outdoors. He loved being outside spending his time gardening, hunting,
fishing and wood cutting to keep the home fires burning. He was also an avid
gold miner on the Smith River. He spent many summers with his kids, teaching
them to be expert swimmers and dredging for those big shiny nuggets!
Every May, when
fishing season opened and the weather cooperated, you could see Dave in the
early morning hours dragging his kayak down Pebble Beach paddling through the
surf. He loved kayak ocean fishing and nearly always brought his limit of black
snapper and occasional ling cod.
He lived a full life filled with adventure and
love for his family.
