Greg Hoover, 68, died in the early morning hours of Monday,
February 9, 2026, in his beloved wife's arms.
Greg was born in Redding,
California on January 18, 1958. He was the second son of Ray and Claudia
Hoover. He spent his early years in Redding, California. Greg graduated from
Enterprise High School in 1976 and went on to Shasta College. He graduated from
Shasta College with a BA in Agricultural and Plant Science. He moved to
Washington in 1998 and owned and operated Arbor Pest Control. Greg met the love
of his life, Carol Morgan, in a drinking establishment on Valentine's Day in
2004. He bought every woman in the bar a carnation just so he could give one to
Carol, because she was hard to get. After a long friendship and courting, they
married July 29, 2006, starting their journey on a blessed and beautiful
relationship.
Greg retired from Arbor Pest Control in 2015
and they moved to Crescent City, California, where he continued with his love
of the outdoors. Greg was a very good mentor to all of his children and his
whole family. Greg had many close friends and family that he shared special
times with. Greg had a remarkable gift for storytelling. Whether gathered
around a campfire, at family gatherings, or over a cup of coffee, he captivated
everyone with vivid tales of his adventures, rich life experiences, and
especially his many memorable fishing escapades. His stories were filled with
humor, wisdom, and a deep appreciation for the outdoors—often leaving listeners
laughing, inspired, or eager to hear "just one more." A passionate
angler, Greg found joy in the quiet patience of the water, the thrill of the
catch, and the endless lessons nature taught him. His enthusiasm for fishing
wasn't just about the sport; it was a way to connect with people, share
knowledge, and create lasting memories.
Greg will be deeply
missed by all who knew him and cherished his engaging narratives and warm
spirit. His voice and stories live on in the hearts of family, friends, and
everyone fortunate enough to have listened.
Greg is survived by his
beloved wife, Carol, their children, grandchildren, many siblings, nieces and
nephews.
A memorial and tree
planting ceremony will be held at Carol and Greg's property in Anderson,
California, at a future date to be announced. In lieu of flowers and in honor
of Greg's deep love of plants and the outdoors, if you are so inclined, the
family warmly invites you to bring a live plant to be planted on his properties
— creating a beautiful, living tribute that will grow and thrive in his memory.
Any memorials in Greg's honor can be made to the Del Norte County Animal
Services, 2650 West Washington Blvd., Crescent City, CA 95531.
